Researchers across UConn work to ensure that doctors can provide the highest standard of care to their patients – not just at UConn, but worldwide.

These scientists play a crucial role in translating new discoveries from the lab bench to the bedside. Every day, they work to improve diagnostic technologies, increase equitable access to healthcare, and develop new cures for diseases. This vital research is supported by the University’s robust clinical research programs.

At UConn Health, clinical research encompasses a broad range of contemporary medicine, with particular strengths in addiction studies, aging, and cardiovascular disease. The Lowell P. Weicker, Jr. Clinical Research Center (CRC) provides comprehensive support across the full spectrum of patient-oriented research, with extensive outpatient facilities and researcher services. The CRC features 6,000 square feet of clinical research space, including a 1,376 square foot core laboratory. It also offers an outpatient research clinic conveniently located near the University main hospital entrance, a Clinical Core that provides nursing and other study coordination services, a Molecular and Immunoassay Core Laboratory, Informatics support, and an 839-square-foot Dental Clinical Research Center.

Beyond UConn Health, researchers at other UConn campuses – in fields ranging from allied health sciences to communication – lead clinical trials to develop and analyze the effectiveness of interdisciplinary health interventions. With unlimited opportunities for cross-campus collaboration, faculty researchers can pursue clinical research in virtually every field. UConn faculty have applied their unique expertise to develop innovative treatments for conditions like cerebral palsy, opioid use disorder, heat stress, anxiety, and more.
