         <title><![CDATA[DOE: Federal Stimulus Funding for Graduate Fellowships in Science, Math, Engineering]]></title>
         <description><![CDATA[<p>The Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Science (SC) has established the DOE Office of Science Graduate Fellowship (DOE SCGF) program to provide support for outstanding students to pursue graduate training in basic research in areas of physics, biology, chemistry, mathematics, engineering, computational sciences, and environmental sciences relevant to the Office of Science and to encourage the development of the next generation scientific and technical talent in the U.S.</p>
<p>Fellows will receive a $35,000 yearly stipend for living expenses, $10, 500 per year for tuition and fees and a $5,000 research stipend supplement for research materials and travel expenses.&nbsp; Fellows will be required to participate in the annual DOE SCGF Research Conference to be held each summer at a DOE national laboratory.&nbsp; Travel expenses and accommodations to the Conference will be provided by the DOE SCGF program.</p>

         <title><![CDATA[Recovery Act Limited Competition: Notice of Availability of Funds and Solicitation for Grant Applications for the Health Care Sector and Other High Growth and Emerging Industries]]></title>
         <description><![CDATA[<p>The Department of Labor announces the availability of approximately $220 million in grant funds authorized by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 for projects that provide training and placement services to help workers pursue careers within the industries described in the SGA. The purpose of the high growth and emerging industries grants funded through this SGA is to teach workers the necessary skills for, and help them pursue careers in, health care and other high growth and applicants include public entities and private nonprofit organizations.&nbsp; Employment and Training Administration intends to fund 45&ndash;65 grants ranging from approximately $2 to $5 million.&nbsp; [<a href="http://www.doleta.gov/grants/pdf/SGA-DFA-PY-09-01.pdf">Full Announcement</a>]</p>

         <title><![CDATA[NIH has released two new announcements related to Recovery Act funding]]></title>
         <description><![CDATA[<p>The first, the <strong>Recovery Act "Grand Opportunities" Grants program</strong> (nicknamed "GO" grants), will support high-impact ideas that lend themselves to short-term, non-renewable funding and may lay the foundation for new areas of investigation. <strong>Due May 27.</strong></p>
<p>The second, the <strong>Recovery Act program for Biomedical Research Core Centers to Enhance Research Resources</strong>, is intended to help institutions hire tenure-track faculty. The formal name relates to the P30 mechanism that is used. NIGMS will consider applications from institutions to hire, and help support start-up packages for, faculty who are newly independent investigators doing research related to the NIGMS mission. <strong>LOI due April 18; applications due May 18.</strong></p>]]></description>

         <title><![CDATA[NIH Challenge Grants in Health and Science Research (RC1) &ndash; April 27, 2009]]></title>
         <description><![CDATA[NIH has received new funds for Fiscal Years (FYs) 2009 and 2010 as part of 
the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (Recovery Act). NIH has 
designated at least $200 million for a new initiative called the <a href="http://grants.nih.gov/grants/funding/challenge_award/">NIH Challenge 
Grants in Health and Science Research</a>. This new program will 
support research on topic areas which address specific scientific and health 
research challenges in biomedical and behavioral research that would benefit 
from significant 2-year jumpstart funds. NIH Institute and Centers have selected 
specific Challenge Topics within each of the Challenge Areas. The research in 
these Challenge Areas should have a high impact in biomedical or behavioral
