Professor and Director, Institute for Collaboration on Health, Intervention, and Policy (InCHIP)

The University of Connecticut invites applications at the level of full professor for the position of Director of the Institute for Collaboration on Health, Intervention, and Policy (InCHIP). InCHIP is a multidisciplinary University research institute dedicated to the creation and dissemination of new theoretical frameworks, new knowledge, and new interventions in the areas of health, health behavior, and health behavior change (http://inchip.uconn.edu). Work on health policy is becoming an increasing focus. InCHIP investigators have expertise in a range of areas including HIV prevention, cancer prevention and control, treatment adherence, intervention science, obesity, nutrition, kinesiology, autism, digital health technologies, pharmacology, substance abuse, school and child health, health policy, and complementary and alternative approaches to medicine. The InCHIP Director will serve as the University’s representative for over 400 faculty and affiliates who are members of InCHIP’s large network of researchers, mostly from UConn and UConn Health, but also well-known scholars from more than 50 other research institutions in the U.S. and around the world. The Director will lead efforts to build upon InCHIP’s strengths and to further increase its success in performing world-class research and securing large-scale extramural funding. The Director will establish, maintain, and enhance InCHIP’s collaborations with University entities and other research partners, and expand the impact InCHIP research has on U.S. and global health and health policy.

In addition to seeking new collaborative opportunities and research partnerships and enhancing InCHIP’s reputation, research, and external funding portfolio, the Director will be responsible for supporting and evaluating activities involving InCHIP’s resources to ensure they are used as productively as possible, and for designing and implementing innovative new initiatives. In pursuing these objectives, the Director will supervise InCHIP’s administrative and research staff and work in partnership with the Deans and department heads/chairs of the related schools and colleges at UConn-Storrs, and with UConn Health to facilitate collaborations between the two campuses as well as other institutions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Minimally qualified candidates will possess an earned doctorate (foreign equivalent acceptable) in a related field and be internationally known for their work in one or more focal areas of InCHIP research. We seek a dynamic, visionary leader who is able to develop and guide the mission and progress of one of the University’s premier research institutes, with $58 million in active grants in FY17. Qualified candidates will have an established track record of leadership, of obtaining significant external funding for their research, of fostering multidisciplinary collaborations involving team science, and of mentoring and facilitating faculty at each career stage to conduct increasingly sophisticated research and to secure increased external funding. They will also have a commitment to working effectively with internal and external stakeholders and a diverse constituency of researchers across UConn campuses, and have a clear understanding of the opportunities for collaborative research at the forefront of health, health promotion intervention research, and health policy in the U.S. and internationally.

APPOINTMENT TERMS

InCHIP is one of four centers/institutes within the Office of the Vice President for Research and the Director reports to the Vice President for Research. The Director will maintain a faculty appointment at the level of full professor in a suitable academic department with tenure upon approval. Although teaching will not be required, opportunities will be available should the Director wish to do so.
